Description

The manganese sulfate is a water-soluble powder formulation used for foliar or root treatments in order to prevent and treat crop physiopathies caused by limited availability or difficulty in assimilating manganese, an essential micronutrient for plants. Manganese deficiencies can occur due to elevated soil pH or due to an excess of iron that creates an "antagonism" phenomenon.

What is manganese used for?

Manganese is an element present in good quantities in the soil, but it is often bound to the solid part of the soil, making it less available for plants. This element plays an important role as a catalyst in the synthesis of enzymes necessary for chlorophyll production and photosynthesis. Furthermore, manganese is a component of many amino acids and gives plants greater resistance to infections, contributing to the natural defense reactions of plants.

Causes and symptoms of manganese deficiency

The main causes of manganese deficiency are the presence of antagonistic elements such as calcium, iron, zinc, and copper, unavailability due to alkaline pH, or excessive use of iron chelates that make manganese unavailable.

Manganese deficiency manifests as interveinal chlorosis on young leaves, starting in the upper part of the plant and slowly moving downwards, eventually affecting older leaves as well. The chlorosis is not uniform, but appears as spots and streaks.
