Description

Okycao is an extremely fine powder with an intense white color and particles with a diameter of 2 - 3 microns, making it easily distributable through normal atomizers, creating an adhesive film on the plant that covers and protects the vegetation.

What is Kaolin used for?

Kaolin has an important action against the Olive Fly, camouflaging the plant, making it unrecognizable to the insect and physically limiting egg laying on the fruits.

Kaolin is a Rock powder that creates an extremely thin film on the treated vegetation. This covering reduces the risk of sunburn, decreases fruit drop, and increases fruit size.

Okycao performs several beneficial functions:

  • Lowers the plant's temperature and improves photosynthesis.
  • Reflects infrared rays.
  • Increases the daily assimilation rate of carbon dioxide.
  • Limits the development of various pathogenic insects such as: Olive Fly, Vine Leafhopper, Tripeptide Flies, Walnut Fly, Fruit Fly, Pear Psylla, Chestnut Gall Wasp. In all these cases, it hinders egg deposition on the treated surfaces; therefore, it is important to repeat the treatment in case of heavy rain.

Dosage for Olive Trees

In the specific case of the Olive Fly (Bactrocera oleae), the product must be distributed preventively, that is, before the start of egg laying (approximately July-August), and the treatment should be repeated monthly (September-October and also November if the Olive Fly infestation remains high and the harvest is not imminent).

Perform the treatment by diluting the product in water with concentrations of 2 - 5% (2 - 5 kg / hectoliter).

How to use Kaolin in agriculture?

Kaolin is used in solution with water and sprayed on Olive Trees using atomizers, in order to effectively cover the entire vegetation.

Are all Kaolin-based products the same?

Absolutely not. Kaolin can be of two types: primary or secondary origin. There are important physical differences between the two minerals in terms of shape, diameter, and particle size.

Being a contact product, the particle size is extremely important!

Okycao of primary origin is characterized by particles with dimensions of 2-3 µm. This unique characteristic ensures high adhesion and resistance on the surfaces of the treated plants, both leaves and fruits. Kaolin with larger particle sizes will tend to adhere less to the plant surface and detach more easily (due to their weight and size).

Being a covering and masking product, particle size is the most important characteristic to consider!

Dosage

In the specific case of the Olive Fruit Fly (Bactrocera oleae), the product must be distributed preventively, that is, before the start of egg laying (approximately July-August), and the treatment should be repeated monthly (September-October and also November if the infestation of the Fly continues to be high and the harvest is not imminent).
